Document Delivery & External Collections

While our library boasts a broad range of collections, it's important to note that we may not have every resource. Here are several avenues to explore for searching and obtaining materials that are not currently available at Western Sydney University Library.

Document Delivery

If you are a current Western Sydney University staff member, PhD candidate, Masters or final year Honours student you are eligible for the Document Delivery Service which means we will request a loan or a digital copy of a resource from another library.

Eligibility

  • Current Western Sydney University staff
  • Currently enrolled Western Sydney University PhD, Masters and final year Honours students.
  • Please note registration is not required.

Requesting

  • Sign in to the Library search box using your Western Account.
  • Search for the resource you need and when the results are displayed, tick ‘Results beyond the Library's collection’.
  • If you see ‘No Full Text’, via this link, click on ‘Resource Sharing’ to access the prefilled document delivery form.
  • If you cannot find an item via the Library search box, use the online form to place a request
  • All requests are subject to Australian Copyright Legislation, which may limit how much you can request from a book or journal.

Processing times

  • Requested items will usually be supplied within 5 to 10 working days, but may depend on the supplying library.
  • Please check MyLibrary Account for the status of your request.
  • Please note that processing times for document delivery requests will be delayed over the Christmas/New Year period.

Availability

You will be notified via email when an item has arrived. Electronic articles will be supplied as an email attachment.

Loan periods

  • Loan periods vary depending on the lending library's policy. Check the due date when borrowing the item.
  • Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library. Please contact us at least a week prior to the item’s due date to discuss.

Returning requested document delivery items

  • Items can be returned to any Western Sydney University Library, or by post.
  • Late returns are subject to standard Western Sydney University Library fees.
  • Lost or damaged items are subject to replacement charges as set by the lending library.

Libraries within Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

Western Sydney University Library will supply loans and copies to libraries within Australia and NZ, in accordance with the Australian Copyright Act 1968 and the Australian Interlibrary Resource Sharing (ILRS) Code.

Libraries outside Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

Western Sydney University Library will supply copies to libraries outside Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, in accordance with the Australian Copyright Act 1968.

Charges

  • Base copying charge: AU$19.70/1.5 IFLA vouchers for up to 25 pages
  • Additional copying charge: AU$4.60/0.5 IFLA voucher for every additional 25 pages

External Library Catalgoues

While Western Sydney University has an extensive collection to support the teaching and research needs of the University community you may want to search beyond or collection for further resources. Some good places to start are:

  • Trove. Trove is a discovery tool focused on Australia and Australians. It supplements data found in general search engines with additional information available to the National library of Australia, providing a rich information experience.
  • Libraries Australia. Libraries Australia is a searchable database managed by the National Library of Australia. It aims to provide access to the records of all materials held by Australian libraries, and underpins Trove
  • Australian Libraries Gateway. The Australian Libraries Gateway provides a consolidated, searchable list of Australian Libraries, including basic information regarding collections, locations and opening hours.
  • WorldCat. Allows you to search the holdings of over 10,000 libraries worldwide.
  • Ulrichsweb: Global Serials Directory Source of detailed information on periodicals of all types, the Ulrich's records provide data points such as ISSN, publisher, language, subject, abstracting & indexing coverage, full-text database coverage, tables of contents, and reviews written by librarians.

Borrowing from other university libraries

Western Sydney University participates in the University Libraries of Australia and New Zealand (ULANZ) reciprocal borrowing scheme that allows staff and students of participating member universities to obtain borrowing privileges from other participating university libraries.

To join, check the relevant institutions library website. They will require you to complete an application form and submit evidence of current enrolment or employment at WSU. Annual membership expires on the 28th of February each year, with a minimal annual fee for students
