Biomed Central and SpringerOpen

BioMed Central and SpringerOpen are imprints of the wider Springer Nature company and publish fully open access journals.

BioMed Central (BMC) has an evolving portfolio of some 300 peer-reviewed journals, sharing discoveries from research communities in science, technology, engineering and medicine.

SpringerOpen includes Springer's portfolio of 200+ peer-reviewed fully open access journals across all areas of science.

Note: not all of these journals will meet the Scimago Q1/Q2 eligibility requirement.

How to access Western Sydney BioMed Central funds:

  • Contact the Library via this web form, providing all planned submission details so that eligibility and funding availability can be confirmed prior to submission. Funds will not be approved for papers already submitted to a journal.
  • If the paper meets the eligibility criteria, the request to access the funds will be approved. Once funding approval is received from the Library, proceed with the article submission following the individual journal submission guidelines.
  • Indicate the paper is eligible to access Western Sydney University funds. This is done by claiming affiliation to Western Sydney University either during submission or by means of an email sent after the paper is submitted, depending on the journal.
  • Library receives notification of the submission, checks this against the original request details, and approves funding as appropriate. This does not guarantee publication.
