Training in the use of Turnitin

The University encourages and expects its staff to make every effort to promote and ensure aceademic integrity in student assignments.

Turnitin is an online web-based text-matching software that identifies and reports on similarities between documents and is widely used utilised as a tool to improve academic writing skills. It is recommended that Academic staff who intend to use Turnitin to assist with the monitoring of academic integrity and the detection of non-original work attend a workshop.
  • Training sessions are available to all teaching and professional staff
  • Session duration usually 1 to 1.5 hours

Registering for Turnitin Training

Courses are for UWS staff members only. UWS staff can register online through Staff Online (opens in new window), then:

1. Select MyCareer Online

2. On the MyCareer Online home page simply type any portion of the course title or relevant word (e.g Turnitin) in the Search box in the top right hand corner

3. Make your selection from the search results

4. A text box will open providing details of the Course - scroll down to see all available sessions/dates

5. Register by selecting the 'Request' option next to the preferred session/date

6. If you are a non-academic staff member, your suprevisor will receive an email asking them to action your request. If your supervisor approves the request you will be automatically registered.

If no session / dates show for the course, you can select the link at the bottom of the course details 'Notify me when sessions are scheduled' - you will receive an email when a date is set.

Alternatively, staff who do not have accesss to online enrolment within Staff Online can enroll by contacting the Turnitin Officer.
