Guidelines For the Use of Turnitin at UWS

  • The software may only be used by staff that have participated in a UWS training programme on the use of Turnitin and completed the Turnitin Registration form

  • It is a mandatory requirement that there is full disclosure of the use of this software to all students in the units in which Turnitin is used

  • All students will have electronic access to the Guidelines to Turnitin: A handbook for students

  • All assignment submissions to be prefaced by a current UWS Assignment coversheet

  • Upon detection of non-original work via the software and qualitative professional evaluation, the responsible academic will inform the student that their assessable work must be original, provide the student with information on how to avoid plagiarism and may require that the work be resubmitted

  • Any action on student plagiarism must be in full alignment with the UWS Student Academic Misconduct Policy, with output from Turnitin available as evidence only, and not as a singular determinant in the judgment at any academic misconduct hearing
