Searching for legislation

To search for appropriate legislation, you must consider which body is responsible for creating the legislation (known as a jurisdiction). For Australia, you need to determine if the legislation is Commonwealth or State.

How to read a citation to a piece of legislation:

Comlaw is a database which provides fulltext online access to Commonwealth legislation.

Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) s 51AD is a Commonwealth act and will be accessible via Comlaw.

NSW legislation is a database which provides fulltext online access to New South Wales legislation.

AustLII is a database with both Commonwealth and State legislation. It is particularly useful for searching for legislation by topic.
