Citation Tracking

What is citation tracking?

Citation tracking, also called citation harvesting or cited reference searching involves searching for articles, books, or other materials that have cited (referenced) a particular work.

Why is citation tracking useful?

Citation tracking makes it possible to understand the impact of a particular work (journal article, conference paper, book) as indicated by subsequent citations by other scholars. It allows the development of a theory to be tracked over the years and helps to identify core researchers in a field.
